25 April 2024: Metin Bağrıaçık (Boğaziçi): Making generalizations — big or small

Abstract

What will come out of a contact situation is, at face value, largely unpredictable; however, could we still not make any statements that would interest the larger linguistic audience? We will look at more case studies across the globe, compare and contrast them, and give the answer in the end.

Mini-bio

Metin Bağrıaçık’s main research interest lies on the study of morpho-syntactic change in time, with emphasis on the minority languages of Asia Minor, mostly Greek and Turoyo. He holds a Ph.D. from Ghent University (2018) and is currently an assistant professor of linguistics at Boğaziçi University in Istanbul.
